An off-site group of less than five users is running ArcSDE (ArcGIS Server 9.3) with SQL Server 2005. They have a vector database (under 10 GB) for editing base data. There is currently a raster database (around 400 GB). Is the performance any different if their raster data was stored in a file geodatabase vs the ArcSDE database in SQL Server? With so few users and no external access (other than VPN), would storing the imagery in a file geodatabase cause any noticeable performance issues in ArcMap? Thanks for your responses.
