Hello all,
I have a feature class and a table inside a file geodatabase.  My feature class has parcel IDs and my table has many permit records for specific parcels.  I need to be able to symbolize this permit information.  I've attempted to create a relationship class and then perform the  "append related fields with a join", per ArcGIS "Help".  I just get a message stating a 1:M relationship class does not support a join.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to do what I'm trying to do here?  I'm using 10.1 at the Advanced level.

Thank you.....

Gary,
Use either a join or a relationship class. Take a look at
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//004t00000002000000
to help decide which you need.

Get rid of any joins, relates, or relationship classes on your test data.

For a join, right click on your feature class, joins and relates, Join which should bring up a dialog box
titled 'Join Data'
leave the 'Join attributes from a table' drop down as it it
1. Choose the field ...      drop down, select parcel ID or correct name for the f. key?
2. Choose the table ...     drop down, select your table
3. Choose the field ...      drop down, select parcel ID again (or the matching field for step 1)

Choose the join options you want (keep all?)
then hit the 'Validate Join' button.
Watch the message in the validate step and get it happy (maybe need an index or ?)
when done with validate, hit the 'OK' button

Now, on your map, use the Identify tool to select a feature (parcel?), make sure the 'Identify from' is right for you, you should see your parcel  with an expandable '+' with your related table entries. With me so for?

Once you can see the relationship ok, from identify, you should be able to symbolize on the related fields in the 'Categories' Value field drop down.

It is easier then this sounds, once you do it a couple of times...
