Hello, I'm trying to make a map about the effects of deforestation on species. I'll make maps for the Amazon Rainforest, Bia�?owieża forest, and the Madagascar forests.
I want to place icons with each species I have data about to show their distribution in the forest. Then, using other data I gather, make approximate predictions about how the forest will be in 20 and 40 years due to deforestation. This way I'll show which species will be affected by deforestation.
Here are my questions.
How should I represent the species icons? I want to use small images as icons, and preferably they should be in their own layer. What should I use for this? Labels can't be placed in their own layer (afaik) so they won't do what I need.
What should I use as a basemap? I'm currently using the community topographical map but it contains a bit more administrative detail than I'd like (it's okay, but not ideal 🙂 ). I would have liked to use a physical map, but this one I found is pixelated at higher levels of zoom. Do you know any other physical maps I could use instead?
