Hello, i want to develop some skills in ArcSDE. Can anyone recommend any training courses that will give me a good introduction and solid grounding. They need to be either cheap or free however! Thanks for any help

Here's some free advice: you get what you pay for...

Seriously, SDE and Server are not trivial technologies.  I took an SDE management course from ESRI back when the current version was 8.x and have been using the technologies ever since.  Been learning them all along the way as well.

Do yourself a favor and check with ESRI online courses or instructor led courses.  It's money well spent.
That should just about do it....

Adding to Joe's comments re: ArcSDE training, here are some resources that you may find of value.

- Instructor Led/Training Seminars:  http://training.esri.com/gateway/index.cfm?fa=search.results&searchterm=ArcSDE
- Versioning 101 ArcUser article:  http://www.esri.com/news/arcuser/0110/versioning101.html
- Diving into the ArcSDE Help:  http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/#/What_is_a_geodatabase/003n00000001000000/

I'll 2nd Joe's comments re: the learning curve - I've been teaching a few of the ArcSDE courses for Esri and am continuing to learn/enhance my knowledge about this subject.

Great thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to wait to get a job with a better training allowance 😉 as can't afford the $1000 courses.
