Field calculation and calling a field from another table

I hope this is an easy question for someone more knowledgeable than I.  Is it possible to calculate a field with values of a field from another table if they are not joined or related?

You should join the attribute tables of the 2 shape files (under the joins and relates in ArcGIS). You just need a shared field so you know how to fit the together. Then create calculate the field by simply copying one field into another as necessary. Then just unjoin the tables and you've done it. I hope that helped.
