Hello,

We are currently trying to test working with data stored on an IBM DB2 Enterprise server using ArcGIS 10.1 Desktop and Server licenses.

My co-worker has created test tables and spacially enabled them.  I can create new feature classes and tables within the DB2 database via ArcCatalog, however I cannot edit them.  I can also copy and delete existing tables, but still not edit them.  The error I get is as follows:
No editable layers.
The workspace containing this data cannot be edited.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?

When I try using the 'Enable GeoDatabase' tool I get an error stating that:
Geodatabase must be enabled as geodatabase admin user.
Any advice on this one?

Thanks in advance...

If it is not an SDE Enterprise geodatabase, then even the Non_Versioned editing won't work.

You'll have to run the Enable Enterprise Geodatabase tool, connected as the "SDE" user....then reload the Feature Classes...

Hi,

Hopefully this helps:

when you edit using ArcMap, choose the option to edit as non version-ed editing.

Resource: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//002700000007000000.htm

to enable the geodatabase you need to access your database using "sde" user in ArcCatalog.

What product release level are you using with Desktop?  Only Standard (aka ArcEditor)
and Advanced (ArcInfo) can edit enterprise geodatabases -- Basic (ArcView) cannot.

Thanks for the feedback thus far.

This will give us a direction to trouble shoot in.

We are using the ArcGIS Desktop Standard (Editor) version.

Can someone expand more on the "SDE" user aspect.  The write up seems somewhat confusing.

I'm new to the DB2 world.

Thanks,

Esri provided the ST_GEOMETRY datatype implementation for IBM that is used
in both DB2 and Informix.  It's been years since I last used them, but I believe
you can install the ST_GEOMETRY extender ("blade" in Informix) without a
full geodatabase inplementation.  If so, it's possible to have Esri ST_GEOMETRY,
without a geodatabase.

You would, however, need to follow the DB2 installation instructions if you wanted
to use ArcGIS to edit feature classes in a geodatabase.
