Cut polygon with polygon

I have been looking and looking for a way to cut a polygon shapefile by another polygon shapefile.  I do not want to use the trace tool.  That would take too long.  Please, someone tell me what tool I am missing!

Have you looked at the clip tool?  Would that serve for your purposes?

How about using the "Replace Sketch" context menu tool? See the tip halfway down the page on this Help topic

You can select the poly you want to use at the clip feature and then hit the split polygon button.
