Hi,

Im aware that this is a basic question but Im new to GIS and im trying to work my way through it for an assignemnt. Basicallly I have a valley, through which is running a river which I will subsequently dam. Alongside this river is a road which will have to be moved once the river is damned and a lake is formed. I am trying to find the most appropriate new path for the road using cost distance tool. I have a 5m DEM of the area from which I have generated the slope. I also have a variety of vector data such as an outline of the catchment Im working on and a habitat class map of the area. I want to display the best road redirection based upon the slope of the terrain and am using my slope data (which I have reclassed). I am unsure, however, what data to use as my 'Input raster or feature source data'. I have tried my road and catchment boundaries but these only inform me that the areas around my roads or within my catchment are suitable without taking into account my slope.

Im pretty lost with this one and any help will be greatly appreciated!! 😞
