Can you include the ArcGIS online locator services in a composite locator?

I'd like to build a composite locator that first checks a local US Single House style locator using my own data and then fails over to use one of the US locator services provided by ESRI (i.e. http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Locators/TA_Address_NA_10/GeocodeServer).  Is that possible?

If not, is there a better way to do this other than having the client first try our local service, and if no candidates are found, then try the ESRI service?

Thanks

Guess I have the same question about the ArcGIS 10 style North American Address Locator (TA_Address_NA_10) - Can it be used in a composite locator? Can I save that locator or its individual components (i.e. 'CAN_StreeName', 'CAN_PostCode') locally on my drive?

Why don't you guys just give it a try and let the rest of us know what you find out?  If it's a published resource, my guess is it ought to work...
That should just about do it....

I had tried, but couldn't figure out how to add the ESRI locator service to my local composite service.

I was responding to this post when I realized that all I had to do was first add http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/services as a GIS server in ArcCatalog, and then I could add their services to my composite service.

Very cool.  Thanks Joe for re-inspiring me to try again.

I have been trying to accomplish the same task, but can't create the composite coder.  There is no information in the error, just that it "could not complete the task".

Anyone have any ideas on weather it is something that can be done or I am still missing something?

Thanks

Since I suggested to try it, I figured I ought to do it as well.  I just created one.  Perhaps you could detail the steps you are taking and we can trouble shoot what's going on...

I also was able to create one w/ no problems.  Can you create a composite locator based two or more of your own locators?

Tom, yes it is possible to add several individual address locators to a composite address locator, regardless of the type (online geocoding service, StreetMap address locator provided with the software, or your own address locator you created with your own reference data). The TA_Address_NA geocoding services that are available when you make the GIS Server connection to http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/services is itself a composite address locator.

I created one with the NA Address locator 10 in my composite address locator and it is not working in my SDE address locator.  The other two address locators within the SDE Composite address locator work.  My folder structure address locator works great and its set up the same way.  Must be a bug.

Thanks for the tip, Shana. I tried using an ArcGIS geocoding service in a composite address locator and received an error when the locator was building. I was also unable to repair it. Has anyone else run into similar issues?
