Can't geocode intersections

Hi,

I have a file that includes intersections in a single field (ex: "Main St / Broad St"), but I can't geocode them for some reason.

I have created address locators of different styles (General-Single Field; US Address - One Range; etc) but each time I try to geocode, I get 0 correctly mapped addresses.

I have made sure in the address locators to include the "/" sign so that it will accept that separator.

The really strange thing is that I can add a single address in the geocoding tool bar or in the "Find" box and see it mapped, but it won't geocode from the excel file of intersections that I have.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

You might give one of the US Streets locators a try; I have very good luck them.  I really can't think of a good reason why the interactive method works but the file method won't.

I just ran an address interactlvely on one of my US Streets locator;  I have to provide a full Pre_Dir, Street_Name StreetType, SufDir in order for it to work with an intersection.

So: State St & 4500 S did not work but
S State St & E 4500 S did.

I wonder if you trye that with your file of intersections if that might do it for you....
That should just about do it....

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the response.  The most infuriating part of the problem is that the list of addresses isn't working while single addresses can be manually entered and geocoded.  Which to me suggests that the address locator is properly formatted.

I'm not sure if I can manipulate the address to add in the additional info.  There are tens of thousands and I don't really know which addresses should have prefixes, anyway.

But I'll take a look at other locator formats.

I've now tried to create a locator with the General - Single Field format, but each time I try to create the locator, I get a "background processing" error.  Whatever that is.

Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Please log a support call and supply the analyst with your street data and your address table, it looks like we may need to tweak the locator grammar definition for your data.  Doing this will benefit other users with similar data.  Thanks very much.

Did you ever find a solution to this?  I am having a similar issue.  I can look up many of my intersections using the Find tool, but the geocoder won't pick any of them up.
