ArcMap v10 - Crashes during 9.3 file geodatabase editing

We have a 9.3 file geodatabase that we're editing using ArcEditor v10 SP1.  Some of our end users will be using Desktop v9.3/9.3.1 for several months and need to view a copy of the data so we do not want to upgrade the database to 10 because 9.3/9.3.1 users can't view data from 10.

There are 3 datasets in the geodatabase.
1 dataset contains 8 feature classes, 1 line (5 line subtypes), 1 poly, 6 annotation
2 datasets just contain 1 feature class, both polygon
The dataset containing 8 feature classes contains 6 topology rules.

We're editing data in the 2 datasets with topology.

There's nothing complicated with the database design.

PROBLEM:
=======

With an 'edit session' open, ArcMap v10 SP1 (ArcEditor) will randomly crash and open a window to send ESRI the error report.  Any edits that were not 'saved' are lost.

Things we've tried that haven't worked:
===============================
- The 9.3 file geodatabase was on a network server so we moved it to the local C drive.
- Disabled the enterprise antivirus.
- The desktop pc was running dual monitors and the display would act funny sometimes so suspecting the video card we removed 1 monitor.

I mostly interested in knowing who else might be having some of the same problems.  I can't believe we're the only ones.

Thanks,
Rodney

Which is why our lab uses postgis/postgresql for our database.  We got tired of dealing with esri's database efforts.

The File Geodatabase is a delicate creature.

ArcMap will understand  PostgreSQL/POSTGIS geometry with out ArcSDE ?

We currently use ZigGIS.

We were hoping for native support without the use of ArcSDE and native ArcCatalog read/write management support.

I suppose it is a little too much to ask for.

We use PgAdmin to manage.  ZigGIS for the Read/Write of postgis features in ArcGIS.

Actually we find we use ArcGIS less for Analysis work, and more for the pretty map making tools.

Do you work all editing using GigGIS ? is GigGIS is free ? Will you compare  PostGIS and ArcSDE.when you use in ArcGIS ?

I am having a similar problem.  We are running SDE 9.3 and I am working on upgrading an extension that I wrote before I upgrade all the existing 9.3 users to ARC 10.  Using ARC 10 on my desktop whenever I try to edit data stored on SDE I get an error stating that the Jet Database cannot find the table "GDB_DataChanges".  The code fails on the ifeature.Store method.  I am assuming that this is a compatibility problem with a ARC 10 Desktop trying to edit a 9.3 database.  But I am here hoping to find a way around this problem.  ARC10 should be backward compatible.

I am having a similar problem. I installed Service Pack I but it didn't seem to help. Are there any answers yet?

Also crashes for me.

Editing a geology polygon geodatabase created in 9.3.1. Using ArcGIS 10 w servicepack 1. Never had unnanounced bad crashes in 9.x that resulted in losing edits. Learning to save often (again) but it's pretty frustrating.

It does seem that the crashing is less since I saved a new copy of the geodatabase. But it could be luck, or my imagination.

I am having the same problem using arcmap 10 except I am editing in a file geo v10 instead on 9.3. My edit session actually slows down (snapping environment) and when I notice this happening I start saving much more often every 1-3 edits and it usually wont crash then but if I go much over 3 edits without saving boom it crashes.

running windows 7 64bit with arcmap v10 SP1
no 3rd party apps in arcmap
no geometric network/topologies/relationship classes

I have a similar problem editing both a 9.3 SDE geodatabse(MSSQL) and straight shape files.   When editing/creating polygons using the trace tool everything works fine for a while and then it crashes.   After a system reboot things work for longer before crashing but the time window becomes progressively shorter untill another reboot is required.   Very frustrating
