I am trying to geocode a  large number of hospital addresses, and am having trouble creating a new address locator with the ESRI Data & Maps for version 10. The addresses I want to geocode are typical street address, city, state, 5-digit zip. The address locator style I chose is "US address - ZIP 5-digit," and the reference data I chose are "streets" in the new DataMaps10. When trying to create the locator, I get a message that ArcGIS has encountered a serious problem, and ESRI asks for me to send an error report with my email address and what I was trying to accomplish. Note: I created an address locator in version 9.3 that worked well for geocoding addresses. The address locator styles have changed since the previous version. Please advise. Thanks.

Lesa,

The US Address - ZIP 5-digit locator style should be used for ZIP code point or polygon data. To create a locator for Street centerline data, please use the US Address - Dual Ranges locator style.

This online help topic describes how each address locator style is used:

Thanks for your response, Agatha. I ended up using the street address locator (created 8/20/2010) in the DataMaps10 folder on my C: drive.
