It will great to have ArcSDE fully support RDBMS functions such as triggers, stored procedures, enumeration, checks ...etc. This provide ArcGIS to be enterprise centric where RDBMS is fully leveraged along with GIS functions provided by ArcGIS.
This is a serious idea to consdier and promote, especially with the promotion of the LGDM. The LGDM is a great resource but I'm not a big fan of all of the duplicate features. With Query Layers and spatial views, ArcGIS could better use RDMS information without extra and denormalized overhead.
There have been several new features in the 15 years since this idea was first raised that extend geodatabase functionality to either support or provide equivalency to additional dbms functionality: query layers, support for database views, contingent values, attribute rules, sequences etc. This idea is somewhat vague in terms of which dbms components to support, and in what capacity.
