Care Madagascar: Safe Water Project
Lalaina Razafimbololona <lalaina_ra@hotmail.com>
"Care Madagascar received a Society for Conservation GIS scholarship in 1999 and 2000. The skills we obtained from this support and training allowed us to undertake the Safe Water Project.
The Safe Water Project enables the community to take charge of all the activities of development and conservation. We did a collaborative analysis of water-quality problems and the constraints they put on the community. Then we elaborated on a strategy and a detailed implementation plan that included monitoring and evaluation. GIS will be used for monitoring, the first component of this project. Other components are planning, research, launch, penetration survey, and final evaluation. We will adjust our activities according to our ongoing analysis and survey result. GIS is useful in making our project more efficient."
