This month we are excited to announce the following enhancements that have been added to the Community.  Covered in this update are:

  1. Filtering by Unanswered Questions
  2. Header Banner Height Reduction
  3. Color Coding of Community Sections

Filtering by Unanswered Questions

New Filter OptionNew Filter Option

We have introduced the option into Latest Activity feeds to sort by 'Unanswered' topics/posts. You’ll see this new option on any Place/Board that uses this version of the Latest Activity feed with the Filter/Sort by dropdown option above and to the right of the feed.

Note: This specifically excludes Doc and Blog boards at this time which will have future enhancements to standardize the latest activity feed and sort/filter options.

Header Banner Height Reduction

In response to your feedback, we have reduced the height of the hero banner when visiting sections of the site beyond the Community Home page. By doing this we hope to improve your experience of getting to the page content quicker and reducing scroll.

Further improvements are planned to the “All Boards in this Place” element to reduce the space taken up by this when you first arrive so you can see more of the Latest Activity feed.

Color Coding of Community Sections

We have introduced color coding/theming for the key sections of the site to help you more clearly recognize which area you are in and when you’ve moved to a new area. You’ll see this color all the way from the top of the section down to a piece of content that lives in that section.

The new color scheme is as follows:

We hope you enjoy these changes and we'll continue to bring you news of Enhancements requested and implemented in regular blog updates.

some movement on the screen space issue, however

I suppose the side spaces are wasted because of limits to responsive design based on the screen size? (iPhone vs monitor)

Thanks for the feedback Dan, yes the site is optimized in responsive layout to 1440px width viewports which means that if you're on a larger/higher resolution monitor it might seem like that there is a lot of white space on the left and right but if you're on a laptop it fills more of the screen. We'll continue to look at our most common device usage on the site and review layouts to accommodate the majority usage. We've also heard some good feedback on optimizing the layout of the latest activity feed to get more important information into that view. We'll be looking at options over the next few months on this.

To your point above about reducing the height of the banner further there is a limitation on that due to the description element that appears on pages of the same type as the Python example you shared. That page type is shared with this page type and we need to leave space to accommodate descriptions where they are used:

And also where board names go onto 2 lines:

We'll continue to look for more ways to bring the important content higher up the page but hopefully this is moving in the right direction with the latest update.

Ok, but my "laptop" has a 3240 x 2160 resolution 15" screen.  I would have thought 1440 is getting a bit on the trailing edge side.
