Joseph Kerski, Ph.D., GISP (@JosephKerski) discusses GIS Day and what makes it so spatial … errr, special!
This November 15th, join your peers around the world in celebrating the increasingly important role GIS plays in our lives. From guiding everyday choices so basic that we hardly take notice to providing crucial insights needed to tackle the greatest challenges facing our world, location information, geospatial thinking, and the people who harness it deserve to be recognized!
There are no strict rules about how one should celebrate GIS Day. Let your love for the profession—and, let’s be honest, your bandwidth—be a decider for what you do and to how far to take things.
From sending a ‘Happy GIS Day!’ email to someone (find the above digital card in these resources), to hosting a demonstration in your office or a local school, and everything in between, the important thing is that you do what feels right and best delivers the message you’d like to share.
Need a completely fresh and irresistibly challenging way to participate in GIS Day? Slip into the shoes
of an investigator and navigate a harrowing ArcGIS StoryMaps escape room in How the Cookie Crumbles, built by Esri’s @JenniferAcunto. Then send it on to your puzzle-loving acquaintances!
You don't need to go it alone in coming up with a plan for celebrating, either. Esri Community’s GIS Day 2023 Forum is a place where you can directly connect with other folks who have experience running GIS Day events to ask them questions or to sample the vintage of their own experience. Heck, you can just take a moment to share your own ideas—showing pride in your work is very much encouraged! When you do participate there, we’ll even award your profile a unique badge that can’t be earned any other way.
