We are an AEC company that is looking into Virtual Machine (VM) technology and I'm curious to learn more from user experience, hardware and software used, and cost. Currently we have some satellite users copying files locally because their connection to the network is slow. We are hoping to find a VM solution to keep users on the network and avoid data replication. Any advice, stories, and experiences are certainly welcome and helpful.

Thanks!

Are you just looking at virtualization of Desktop/Pro, Enterprise or both?

Would the VM's be in a cloud (Azure, AWS, etc) or on-premise?

Where would the data be housed in relation to the VM's?

Thanks George for the reply and questions. The VMs would be for Desktop/Pro. The VM would potentially be through Amazon. The data would be on a separate server with a Panzura using rack space on the Amazon site which will give the VM connection to our data.

I would recommend looking at this webcast and docs.

Cloud virtualization—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop

I know that they do not give cost, but have some great information. I have seen clients deploy it successfully with good planning.
