How to make map inaccessible to others but share it in an application?

I found a map used to make this great story map but I was not allowed to log in.

I thought applications can only be built from layers and maps that have at least the same level of sharing. For example I have to share a map and its layers with everyone in order to share the resulting application with everyone.

Hi,

You are right, maps need to be shared at the same level than the application to be usable.

The maps that you have found must be a copy and is not actually used in that Journal.

The maps used in that Journal are:

We are working on a feature that will let StoryMaps author opt-in to expose for download the maps and layers used in that application and so make the data easy to found and reuse.

I have saved a copy of the maps but the last one (url below) says many of the layers cannot be added to the map (I was only able save it with points)

Hi Allison,

The webmap you were looking at "a59a0210f99847fab743c233aa3ed367" was actually a legacy leftover when the original journal was built. It referenced layers that are no longer accessible - that's why you were seeing the errors. I've now removed it from the journal and unshared it so you shouldn't see it any longer.

Let us know if you have any problems with this one. You must have an organization account to see the individual service layers in this map as they're subscription based only.
