Trying to install ArcReader in ArchLinux

I know ArcReader was meant for RHEL and Suse users but linux is linux anyway you might wanna call it. So I've installed ArcReader931 and obviously while trying to launch it I got several errors. Those I've corrected were because of  minor differences  between distros. Sadly eventually I've stumbled on something like
./arcreader: line 18: 26719 Aborted                 /home/user_name/arcgis/bin/arcreader.exe $@

I have to say it's rather awkward seeing a linux app demanding an exe file but anyway trying to run
/home/user_name/arcgis/bin/arcreader.exe separately I've ended with this error
/home/user_name/arcgis/bin/arcreader.exe: error while loading shared libraries: libsde.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Now I'm guessing it all comes down to a missing library, libsde.so. Searching for a possible fix I've seen a Fedora user had the same issue as I have http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=113&f=1141&t=267520 but frankly I didn't understood if he eventually fixed it or not.

I thank you with anticipation for any hint or possible solutions. It would be really nice making ArcReader available for Arch Linux users too

I know this is an old post, but I just saw the reference to my posts on this subject.

I got it running on Red Hat, and engineering created a map for Linux. But the map didn't display properly. The map data was pulled from several sources, and a lot of the text info didn't show. I couldn't press engineering to spend any more time on it, especially since it doesn't support any modern Linux distro.

I resorted to running WinXP in a virtual mode, and loading the map on the Windows version of ArcReader.

Our engineering department is now creating a web-browser viewable map. But they say it doesn't work in Firefox (windows), so I doubt that it will work in a Linux browser either.

I hate windows proprietary crap!
