ArcReader 10.2 install on Windows 7 64bit

When installing ArcReader 10.2 standalone on a machine with Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS, the SQL Server Native Client 10.0 does not install. ArcReader will not connect to the SQL databases. When I manually install the Server Native Client, ArcReader will connect to the databases, however, the info tool will not return correct information.
Anyone else dealt with this? Is there a patch available, a workaround, or another solution?

Have you set up any Domain on the Geodatabase/Join on the feature class. Its a wild guess and I'm not sure whether that's the reason for this behavior. You have to contact ESRI Tech Support.

Thanks for the reply. There are no domains or joins associated with the data. It works on some Windows 7 machines, but not others.
I have not yet been able to determine the difference. I was hoping an ESRI ArcReader guru would have an idea, but I haven't heard from them yet. Next stop Tech Support...

Cheers.

We were having similar problems with ArcReader, SQL DB's, and Native Client.  We had to manually install Native Client on all PC's & Virtual PC's for ArcReader to access the SQL databases.  Then from the server apply permissions to a Generic workgroup ie. ALL USERS on the network.  So, you may want to look at permissions on that client.  Hopefully this helps.

Also, just a side note: we had just changed servers as well as SQL server 2005 to 2008 before we had the issue

Alternate solution:

Do you use ArcGIS Server at your organization?  If so, you could try creating a web based FlexViewer application that can duplicate the business needs of your ArcReader users.  FlexViewer applications just need configuration file changes.  This is what my organization is doing to move an entire department from an ArcReader project to a FlexViewer application.  As such, we do not need to install ArcReader software on over 80 computers any more.

To Michael...

Yeah, that is a much better suggestion.  I have been pushing our Coordinator to do away with ArcReader & jump on board with FlexViewers as well as ArcGisonline to meet the needs of our County.  Seems to me, once you have so many users, it taxes your resources. Simply put ArcReader is a hassle, especially in our county with over 50 PC's & Virtual PC's in multiple buildings and satellite departments. Not to mention that someone somewhere is getting new equipment, and with a separate IT staff that does not include Arc installs as part of their template, it gets really hairy.
