Hi,
Our agency is about to upgrade all GIS users to Windows 7 and ArcGIS 10.0.  ArcPad 10 loads with ArcGIS 10.0 on the PC, but we have ArcPad 8 on all of our Archer GPS devices.  Will the PC and the device still be able to exchange data, or do we also have to upgrade the devices to ArcPad 10?

Thanks for advice,

Hi Reed,

If you are using ArcPad 10 on your PC to check-out and check-in your projects, you can still use your ArcPad 8 devices to edit your projects in the field. The same maps (.apm) and data (.axf) are used in both versions.

BUT - you will not be able to benefit from all of the new features, bug fixes and general awesome-sauce that comes with ArcPad 10 😞

This includes access to Online Basemaps, improvements to camera support and drawing performance, the QuickCapture Toolbar and ArcPad Shortcut Apps!!

Every ArcPad License includes one (1) Desktop and one (1) Mobile Installation, so feel free to install ArcPad 10 on a device to see if your project could benefit from these improvements!

Hi Hannah, and thanks for your reply!  I am glad we are still able to at least use the ArcPad 8 instruments.
