I'm am looking to edit an exising shoreline shapefile while in the field using either ArcPad 8 or 10. Does anyone know of a convenient way to do this?

Are you using a GPS unit to collect the new vertices or are you manually wanting to move them in ArcPad? Assuming you are using a GPS unit, then do the following:

In the drawing tools menu click the dropdown below the select button and click select & vertex editing. Then click the feature you would like to select and then click and hold on the screen until a new dialog box appears and select move to GPS and it will be moved to your current GPS location. Then click ok to accept the changes.

I hope this helps.

Many ArcPad users have requested this type of functionality in the ready-to-deploy ArcPad application and was recently submitted on Ideas site, http://ideas.arcgis.com/ideaView?id=08730000000bmot&returnUrl=%2Fapex%2FideaList%3Fc%3D09a300000004x..., so visit the site to discuss and vote on this and other great Ideas. In the meantime, you might want to look at a 3rd party solution, APToolBox from iNovaGIS found here http://www.inovagis.com/gbr/aptoolbox.htm. I have done recent testing and APToolBox also works with ArcPad 8 and ArcPad 10 releases.

Cheers,
Denise
