Is it possible to export TIFFs from ArcMap 9.3.1 to be used in ArcPad 10?  When I attempt to open the file in ArcPad I receive an error message.  I just want a fast way of exporting base maps to be used in the field. What are my options?

Thanks,

Daniel

In ArcPad 10, extra support was added to the TIFF module to support TIFF images that comes from ArcGIS. If you have a problematic TIFF image, I would very much like to get a copy of it so I can analyze it.

Otherwise, can I recommend that you use ArcMap to generate better TIFF images for ArcPad using the following steps:

1. Load your original image in ArcMap
2. In the Table of Contents, right click on the image, and select Data > Export Data
3. An Export Raster Data dialog should appear
4. Set Format: TIFF
5. Check Use Renderer (* important *)
6. Check Force RGB (* important *)
7. Click Save button

This should produce a TIFF image that will load in ArcPad.

Dear Stephen,

I have the same trouble with .TIFF basemaps in ArcPad10 - some are refused as with error right at the start and the rest of them not displayed at all (resulting in blank basemap).

Files to download for your inspection (zipped in appropriate directories): http://leteckaposta.cz/441992256

Everything worked fine in ArcPad 8 SP4, even the troubles with large .JPEG aerial (you may call them satellite) pictures on VGA screen much improved since ArcPad 8 SP3.

I'm just a simple user so I'll describe it simple:
Device: Trimble Nomad

ArcPad8 SP4 (since ArcPad7 all versions) display all my TIFFs.
The fastest loading .TIFF basemaps format: LZW compression and probably MrSID (check it out) - the "bottleneck" is probably reading large files from the memory card (compressed files are just one fourth as big)
ArcPad 10 excludes some with error message right at the start: good feature that prevents later crashes with the risk of data loss
ArcPad 10 does not display any from the rest of TIFFs which worked fine till ArcPad8 SP4

Thanks in advance!

Tom

PS ESRI forums attachment download manager refused to upload zip files smaller than 2 MB

Next week I'll try to re-export TIFF files from ArcGIS export manager - but I'll miss MrSID support a lot...
