Connecting ArcPad with the physical enterprise geodatabase over WIFI,

I??m wondering if there is a way to connect the ArcPad installed in GPS device with a physical version on an enterprise geodatabase such that data collected from the field is directly stored in the version without the need to use the tools ??get data for ArcPad? and ??get data from ArcPad?

Thank you

Hi Jamal,

This may not be exactly what you had in mind,  but in ArcPad 10.2 you can use ArcPad with Feature Services to make edits in the field and sync them to your server using a data connection.

How this works is simple:

  • From your .mxd, share your data as a service (with ArcGIS Server or hosted in ArcGIS Online).

  • In Catalog, right click the service and Create Layer. The Layer file contains all of the information that ArcPad needs to locate your service and sync your edits.

  • From the same .mxd, perform an ArcPad check-out. This will create your ArcPad project and allow you to include any customization to your map and forms.

  • In ArcMap, a new tool has been installed in the ArcPad Toolbox called ' Add feature service URL to AXF'. This tool takes the Layer File from your service and the AXF from your checkout and inserts all of the service information into the AXF. This means that your AXF can now communicate directly with your feature service.

  • Now you can distribute your ArcPad project, make any edits to the data and use the 'Synchronize Data with ArcGIS Server' tool to push your edits to the server as well as pull down any new features.

For more information, see the ArcPad Help.
