ArcPad shapefile cannot be edited

Hi, I'm working on a project with about 90,000 point features in a geodatabase using Arcpad 8.0 and ArcGIS 9.3.

When I get data for arcpad and then open the apm file in arcpad, the point features cannot be changed to edit mode in the table of contents as the edit checkbox isn't available for selection.  At the same time I'm exporting a polygon shapefile from the same geodatabase and the polygons can be easily edited in arcpad without a problem

I've tried cutting down the point shapefile to 22,000 records then 2,000 records, and then to 400 records, but it still does not allow me to edit the data or symbology.  I've reviewed the original data and it is not read only.  I've worked with older versions of the data (that have never been exported to arcpad) and have had the same result.  I've tried working with the data as a shapefile and on different computers and the same problem happens.

I'm not sure what is wrong with my data, but any help will be appreciated.

Jessica, when you check out your data, did you select to keep the shapefiles as "Background layers"? If so, then then the shapefiles are not editable in ArcPad.

I have also been having this trouble for awhile now.  Thanks to the last post I finally figured it out.  If you click on Action, then Defaults, click on Background layer editing  -- Editing Allowed.

Thanks so much for posting this information.  This has been driving me crazy.
