ArcPAD 10.0.3 Track Log does not work in Panasonic CF-19 with embedded GPS

I have a Panasonic CF-19 (CF-19RFRCX1M) version 4 with the embedded GPS running windows 7 and the GPS works fine but the track Log will not log data. I also have a second identical CF-19 but it has a Gobi 2000 modem. I am able to get the Track Log to work on that unit if I select the GOBI Modem GPS. The Panasonic embedded 3D differential GPS is a better unit than the GOBI but it will not log Track logs.

so there is a problem with the embedded GPS and ArcPAD 10 not logging Track Log data.

Does anyone know if there is a ESRI patch to fix this?

Thanks

Andy,

I can't say I've heard of an issue with that specific toughbook gps not recording a tracklog.  I can definitely say that there aren't any patches out there to resolve an issue such as this.

This may be a silly question, but have you tried clicking the "Clear" button (accessed by double-clicking the tracklog in the TOC) before starting the tracklog?  This can be a cause of a tracklog failure to start.

If the clear option doesn't do anything for you, I'd suggest logging a new incident with Support Services.  They'll be able to look a little deeper into the issue.

Thanks.

I found the problem by driving in the car with the laptop instead of sitting in the lab. 🙂

The track log in ArcPAD will only log points if the X/Y values change. This is probably a good thing so your log does not fill up with a bunch of drift points when you are stationary.

The Panasonic embedded GPS X/Y data stream values are unchanging when stationary and the ArcPAD will not log any points unless the data stream X/Y values change. The GOBI cell modem on Com 6 is always changing even when stationary The embedded GPS on com3 does not seem to drift when stationary. This was confirmed by opening up a hyper term "type" program and examining the incoming GPS data. It should be noted that the Panasonic embedded GPS is a better DGPS 3D while the GOBI is only 3D.

So The GPS does work in ArcPAD 10.0 thru 10.0 R3 just fine as long as you are moving.

My mistake
