I am new to developing in ArcObjects for the GIS engine.

I'm beginning to use the developer kit for ArcObjects loading and wanted to test some of the sample code in Visual Studio but find that I need further authorization to work with these tools.  With the AxMapControl I get the error that "This control requires an ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit license.  Please contact ESRI to acquire the correct license."  In the documentation I found that "SoftwareAuthorization.exe" is used to complete the registration process but this executable is not loaded on my machine.  Where can I obtain a copy?

Thanks,
Craig

Did you install the ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit?

If so, you should have been prompted to register the kit online directly from ESRI.

Yes!  I registered everything I was prompted to register.  Nevertheless, I cannot locate "SoftwareAuthorization.exe" which seems to be part of the registration of ArcGIS Engine.  I'm really not sure if this is needed to instatiate the ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit license or not.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig:

When I installed the dev kit I was prompted to register online.  When I did so, I was prompted for my edn licence file; once I located that and selected okay then online process completed.  I had to do nothing else to get the dev kit to work for me.

Perhaps you should call the 1-800 support number - maybe they can help you with the registration process.

Doug.

It turned out that the solution was to pay $1,500 for a EDN license.  Although the software comes with each installation, I had no idea that a separate license was needed to develop standalone GIS projects.
