ArcGIS layer to Shapefile conversion

I am writing a webservice that connects to a layer through ArcGIS and convert the layer to a shapefile. Any help on this please.

any help please? The layer is being stored in an sde on an other server and published through ArcGIS

The Geoprocessor has several tools that can be used for this. I would suggest that you look at the Copy Features tool. Here are a few links that may help:
