Turn off Basemaps

I have placed some basemaps on my maps as an option for the user, using MapSwitcher widget.  However, they cannot get the basemap to turn-off when they still want to look at the data, but not have the basemap display.  How can this be done?  I am using the compiled format.

You could publish a mxd that just contains an empty feature class and then add this as another basemap giving it a name of "Turn off Base Map" or have a look at my base map style widget that allows you to change the apperance of  tiled map services:

If you can use the source code you could create a totally white filter
