Scale bar becomes small black line after adding ArcGISImageServiceLayer

Hello,

When I begin my map with an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer the default scalebar appears correctly.

But the moment I add an ArcGISImageServiceLayer the scalebar becomes a small vertical line. The image is a SID tile.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and/or how to prevent it?

I am working with ArcServer 10, Flex API 2.4, and Flash Builder 4.5.

Any help is appreciated.
