Help: Barchart's summaryField

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if I need the summaryField in the Barchart in Flexviewer 1.3?

I am using years as my fields from 2011 to 2031 for an occupation. I am not sure if I need the summaryField. Can I get rid of this in the code if not needed?
