Hello!

I'm new to Survey 123.  I just created an inspection survey with the assistance of my coworker.   We purchased iPads (10th Generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular to allow our inspectors to conduct the survey at our facilities throughout the city.

One of the questions allows the user to use the Audio feature to dictate reminders (i.e., click on the microphone and record any follow up issues, such as, work orders, missing fire extinguishers, expired first aid kits, etc.) .    I don't know how to make the dictation automatically transcribe/convert to text.

When I downloaded the PDF report, it's an icon of a mp3 file.  But, you can't listen to it because it's a PDF.  Is it possible that the dictation is automatically transcribed/converted to text?  If yes, how do I do this?  Please assist.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Sherry

You would use the dictation that is built into the iPad that works in all apps.  It used to not work offline but I just tested and it seems to now.  But make sure to test.  Note there are usually 2 buttons on iPad that look similar.  One does dictation and one is just a recording.

Same on Android but on there you do need to download the language pack for it.

You may also need to add predictivetext setting in the form.  You do on Android not sure on iPad.

Predictive text is disabled for text questions by default on Android, which can deactivate the speech to text function on some keyboards. https://doc.arcgis.com/en/survey123/desktop/create-surveys/xlsformsappearance.htm#:~:text=The%20pred...

Dear Doug:

I will try that.  I have only tested the Survey123 on my computer and laptop.  Let me try it on the iPad.    Is the one that you circled

Thank you

Kind regards,

Sherry

Hello!

In the spreadsheet, I changed the "type" to text vs audio.   This way, the keyboard appears and you can either  use the microphone to dictate or type in text.

When the "type" was audio,  a microphone icon appear on my survey (i.e., no access to the keyboard) and it only allows one to record and the end result is a mp3 file which can't be heard in the report because the report is a PDF file.

So, that was an easy fix.

Thank you
