Hello Esri community,

I'm part of a student group working together on an assignment for a small external company. This company wants us to use a Storymap Template they've created to create Storymaps documenting several locations. But we keep running into errors when trying to use the Template to create a story or trying to Duplicate the Template. When trying to create a story based on the template, we get a "There was a problem accessing this story or this page. Please try again or contact your ArcGIS administrator" error screen. When trying to duplicate the Template, we get a "Unfortunately, this item cannot be duplicated at this time" notification in the top right.

We've already been busy trying to solve this on our own. Our administrators have set up a Partnered Collaboration between our organisations, and also created a Shared Update Group for us. The Storymap Template is shared by the administrator to this group. Yet we still can't get it to work the way we expected it to work: us students able to start a new story, based on the template by the company, to 'fill in the details'.

We are working in ArcGIS Online, and because I saw somewhere that this apparently makes a difference: I'm 99% sure both organisations are in the EU data storage region.

Is the 'problem' we are encountering actually a bug, have we forgotten/not noticed something or is this expected behaviour? (or is it an issue with the Templates still being in beta?)

Collaborating on Storymaps is new for our administrators too, so hopefully the wisdom of the crowd can point us as students (or them as administrators) to a solution or workaround. If I need to provide additional details, please let me know. Thank you!

EDIT: We've figured out a workaround! The administrator can start to create a story from the template, and we can then edit that Storymap, instead of starting one ourselves from the template. Not the process we expected to follow, but it seems to work for now.

Hi! Thanks for responding so quickly and thoroughly! As we've found a workaround that works for us so we can get started, contacting support won't be necessary anymore. Thanks again

Hello @student554947 - I'm sorry that you are having trouble getting this collaboration to work. We just tested using templates via partnered collaboration workflow, and things appear to be working as expected for us.

It's possible there is something specific about your organization(s) or template(s) causing this, so I would recommend contacting Esri Technical Support. Our support analysts will be able to troubleshoot any issues with your environment and/or items and help you get to the bottom of this.
