Understanding Area Solar Radiation Results

I am trying to understand the output from running the area solar radiation tool, and understand if my values are reasonable. I ran the tool using most of the defaults, but I ran it for the duration of the whole year, 2014. If I understand correctly, the output unit is "watt hours per square meter." I got a range of 34.4 to 1,500,000 and change. My thought is to convert this to kw hours in order to make those larger values more reasonable, ie 1,500,000 becomes 1500 kw hours. My main question: is this result the estimated kw for the entire year? (understanding, of course, that this is per square meter). Or is it per day, or some other time frame? Have I gone wrong somewhere?

Thanks for your help.
