Hi,

I have a state layer with cities and the usual city attributes (name, population, etc.).  The attribute table also has a "capital" attribute (Y/blank).  If the city is the capital of the state, the capital column has a 'Y', otherwise, it's blank.

I would like to display the layer with city names and:

  • If the city is not the capital, symbolize with a circle
  • If the city is also the state capital, symbolize with a star

This seems rather simple but I tried defining classes of features, using the Symbology tab creatively and checking the internet.  I can't figure this out.  I would very much welcome all suggestions.  Many thanks.

\Frances

Then just make sure that you set the symbology to unique values and use the table field that differentiates state capital and non-capital

are they point symbols?

Point symbols—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation

If so, then you will have to troll the symbol sets for the appropriate one. using Unique values as the type

Dan, thank you so much.  I can't believe it was so simple.  I was complicating it or overthinking it.  Or both.  You're the best!
