How to remove linear features extending from nonlinear polygons?

I am working on cleaning up some NWI vector data that will be turned into a 10m classified wetlands raster. My main issue is that I need to clean up some linear features that extend from larger polygons without removing the linear features that fall inside the larger polygons. For example, I want to:

Remove

Keep 

I have a script that is able to remove the linear features, but I am not sure how to isolate the cleanup to features that fall outside of larger wetland systems. Each polygon contains a wetlands class, and I would like to keep that data in tact, therefore merging the larger polygons then running my script will not work because I lose my classification field of the individual polygons. 

I am open to solutions in Arc pro or ERDAS
