coloring in contour lines

hi all, i have a quick question about how to fill in contour lines with color.  here are the steps so far that i have done: first i created an interpolated surface for my data using IDW, then i used the create contour tool to make contour lines for specific areas for my interpolated surface.  i then grouped these contours into a single drawing and converted them to a shape file.  what i have are color coded contour lines.  however, i would like to fill these lines in with color so each contour is a solid color.  any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You would need to convert the polylines to polygons to fill them with color.

Another option would be to take your surface raster and reclassify the values to an integer raster.  You could them symbolize the groupings by varying colors, or you could convert to polygon to symbolize each contour value.
