ArcGIS Pro Compatibility

We are building an ArcGIS Pro add-in with the ArcGIS Pro SDK. What's a good strategy to support older versions of ArcGIS Pro, especially versions using different .NET runtimes? For example, if we are building our next release with the ArcGIS Pro SDK 3.6, how should we support users running ArcGIS Pro 3.5 and older, or even ArcGIS Pro 2.x?

Hi @zhangjinzhou ,

You can see at ArcGIS Pro Life Cycle | Esri Support the life cycle of ArcGIS Pro releases. For example 3.1.8 has been retired on April 1st 2026.

So if you want to support 3.5 (planned for retirement on June 1th 2028), you should use the ArcGIS Pro SDK 3.5. The is forward compatible to 3.6.x, 3.7.x and any later 3.x releases.

If you have a requirement to support 2.x, this will have to be a different codebase as 3.x has breaking changes from 2.x . You would then have to maintain both a 2.x codebase and a 3.5+ codebase.

Given that the latest 2.x version, 2.9.x, was retired over a year ago in June 2025, I would skip on supporting any 2.x codebase.

Let me know if you have any other question on the topic.
