Use Map Scale as a Field Question

Hi 

Has anyone in here had tried using Map scales in a field to use for a smaller area ?

For example,  My campground was created by a AutoCAD User and the person use their own map scale  .

So when I work on my legend for each campground I am working on. The Campground has it own scale and it is driving me crazy because not all are the same.

I know there are many different method to use Reference Scale settings...

Has anyone tried using Map Scale in a Field and use that ? 

The reason I am asking is because I want the symbol to show smaller on the the Layout.  The symbol looks bigger and overlaps with other symbol.

Never mind. I figure it out after working on each campground. You have to look at the campground  on the layout and look at the reference scale to set and then  I work on a few layers that look too big or too small . I just have to fix it and ensure they are overlap or fi in with the georeferenced TIFF.
