Setting date field to default to current date?

Is it possible to set a default value of "Today" for a date field in ArcGIS Pro? I have my data sorted by date (newest first), and it would make it easier if could just default the date to the current date instead of "12/30/1899".

This question got brought to my attention today.   

For those finding themselves here who have this need, I would consider enabling editor tracking, but only enabling the creation date attribute. This will create a system managed field in your table that records the creation date of the new feature. It gets recorded with a date and time, and can be configured to display only the date value through field settings on the layer if that is the end goal.
