Anyone else having this issue - I changed the Rendering engine from DirectX to OpenGL in the Display options for ArcGIS Pro and the application crashes as soon as it tries to open any project.  Even a new completely blank Local scene template.

since no followup was done, you will have to check the help topics

Set display options—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS for Desktop

and this under the graphics section

ArcGIS Pro system requirements—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS for Desktop

and don't forget to check the link on the page

Can You Run It? to see if your system has the requirements

Same issue for me with the latest beta version of ArcGIS Pro.

Did you ever get this issue resolved?

Thanks,

Mark

Good call.  My graphics card does not support the minimum version of webgl.

It may be a good idea in the future to add checking upon application startup as the application crashes completely without any indication why....

Guys,

The reason the default is DirectX is that it has a fallback mechanism called WARP that will work even without a GPU.

The option to switch to OpenGL is a troubleshooting option, as some rare people have GPU that support OpenGL better than DirectX, or have out of date drivers for their card that mean that OpenGL works better than DirectX.

We've also seen GPUs fail when we request what capabilities they support...those tend to be driver bugs.

In general it is a good idea to keep your video drivers up to date FROM THE MANUFACTURER, and DO NOT USE WINDOWS UPDATE to check for new drivers for your GPU.
