Hello Helpful Community,

I have an problem i'm not sure how to tackle on ArcPro. I have one large polygon layer that has many polygons of protected area boundaries and their associated attributes (area, name, management type, etc). One of the protected areas boundaries have recently been updated and I have made a new polygon for the new area covered. How can I add this updated new polygon layer to my main file of all protected areas polygons. Initially I tried deleting the old polygon for that one protected area from the attribute table, although I got a warning saying the table is un-editable. I also tried edited the vertices of the original polygon, but again its un-editable. I also tried the merge tool, although the output wasn't correct (it only displayed the one new updated polygon and not all the protected area polygons). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or help to figure out how to update the boundaries of one polygon in the attribute table.

I have attached two photos. One of the original polygon, which I would like to edit/update. and one of the new polygon I made in a separate file, which I would like to merge into the same file and replace the old polgyon boundaries.

Thankyou in advance for your help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Best,

Laura

Hi @LauraRaposo

First, you'll need to find out why the layer is not editable. In the Contents pane, switch to List By Editing view and make sure the layer is checked on (editing enabled) and look for any warnings. You can also bring up the editing Status window to see if there are any reasons listed there.

Relevant documentation:

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/editing/specify-which-layers-can-be-edited.htm

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/editing/view-layer-permissions-for-editing.htm

Once you figure out why the layer isn't editable and you correct that problem, you can use Replace Geometry along with Replace Sketch to update the geometry of the old feature (while maintaining its attributes)

I hope this helps,
