Hi everyone,
I've got a co-worker who's having an unusual problem I've never encountered before and can't seem to replicate, but I don't use the graphics layer very often, so I'm not familiar enough to really understand the issue. I'll try to explain it as briefly as I can.
First, he's working in an existing project with multiple types of features classes. He wants to make a very simple addition to the map without creating a new feature class, so he's using graphics to draw polygons (to show a wetland, for example).
He'll draw his first polygon in the graphics layer without any problems.
He then draws a second polygon next to the original polygon - let's say he's drawing the other side of the wetland, which is separated by a bike path - but when he finishes drawing the second polygon, which follows the general shape of the first polygon but is 20-30 feet away from it, the first polygon will rotate inexplicably.
It doesn't look like it stretches or like the individual vertices move on their own. It seems like the first polygon simply rotates about 30-45 degrees or so. The same thing apparently happens when he changes the "fill pattern" of the polygon graphic (sorry, I'm not sure if that's the right term when it comes to graphics). For example, he'll use the "swamp" fill pattern because it looks like a wetland, and as soon as that change is made, the polygon will rotate, too. It seems like any change made after he draws the first polygon will make the polygon rotate.
I don't have access to his project and can't check the settings for his map or his copy of ArcGIS Pro, but if you have any suggestions to try, I'll pass them along. I may also be able to get more information on the problem, but I won't be able to get that info until tomorrow. Thanks.
Seems buggy to me. Doesn't sound like typical graphics behavior...
If moving to a fresh pro project isn't an option (which it seems would fix the issue since you couldn't replicate the problem), why not just create another feature class? Or use an existing feature layer and add a field to symbolize by unique symbols. Seems like it'd be much more troublesome to try to fix a possible bug.
I think that's probably where it will end up, but I figured we'd see if anyone had a similar experience first. We'll see if moving to polygon feature classes instead of graphics layers will fix this problem (surely it would, right?), but I don't often work directly with this person so it might be a little while until we try it.
I'm not aware of any known issue related to the issue you describe. The problem may be specific to your data/workflow. Can you contact Esri Support? They are better equipped to handle troubleshooting steps and gather bug data. They can be contacted at https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support.
Thanks,
Tom
Hi @TomBole
Thanks for the response. When my schedule clears up, I'm going to ask my co-worker for a copy of their project and see if I can replicate the issue on my machine. I'll take notes and send the relevant info to Esri Support if the issue isn't just some obscure setting or something wacky like that.
