Editing a Vertex on Polygon takes an adjacent vertex with it as a pair

I'm editing vertices on a polygon in ArcGIS Pro 3.4.0 and when I select one vertex to move, the adjacent vertex moves along with it.  If I delete one of the vertices the other is also deleted.  I've checked that Stretch Proportionately is not on though I know that will affect more than one vertex.  I haven't been able to find others who might have this problem.  I've included a small screenshot.  Thanks!

If you click on the segment of the line between a set of vertices it will move the both vertex's on either end of that line segment. When your cursor is lined up to move a single vertex you should see a hollow square with arrows pointing in the 4 cardinal directions

When you are selecting the line segment between a set of vertices your cursor will show a curved line with dots at each end.

Maybe this is the issue?

ps. sorry about the crummy pictures, I couldn't get a screenshot to show a cursor so had to take a phone picture.
