Create multi part polygon with parts that have adjacent edges

Hi,

Is it possible to create a multi part polygon with parts that share an edge? I want these polygons to be part of the same feature but if I try to combine them, they merge and become one polygon. I need to preserve the separate boundaries as they are distinct areas with separate properties.
