Hi everyone,

Every time I create a new project in ArcGIS Pro, it automatically generates an Index folder, which I don’t need. I’ve tried disabling it via Settings > Options > Indexing by unchecking "Enable indexing for project contents", but the folder still appears.

My Questions:

  • Is there a way to completely prevent the Index folder from being created?
  • Could this be version-specific?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Best,
Cassandra

ArcGIS Pro  version 3.4

many things are indexed besides project contents,

As an example a project "Index" folder

C:\arcpro_npg\Project_npg\Index\npGeom04_index

contains subfolders

Connections    #  I have no connections so this was empty

npGeom04     #  a bunch of files associated with some featureclasses

Thumbnails  # thumbnails of maps

I then toggled off indexing period in the Project backstage, created a new project, added 2 featureclasses, saved and exited.

and got no index folder

Again.... no outside links to data, no sharesies with anything, no basemap, just local data

I can't guarantee you won't get an index folder if this is beyond your case, or you perform some operation that may require indexing at sometime
