ArcGIS Pro 2.9.5; Oracle 18c 10.7.1 EGDB:
A Selection Layer's list of features is stored in a Selection Definition Set:
The list of features is hidden.
Instead of obscuring the list of features in a Selection Definition Set, could the list of features be stored in a definition query expression based on the ObjectID?
OBJECTID IN (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
Alternatively, could the list of features be displayed in a copyable text box in the Properties > Selection tab?
For use in SQL queries, documentation, etc.
This idea is similar to a point I made in Consistent/visible SQL expressions and query definitions in layers. But I felt it warranted its own separate idea. (I thought there was an existing idea for this, but I couldn't find it.)
Related: Selection to Definition Query
As you pointed out, this is related to https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-ideas/selection-to-definition-query/idi-p/932030 which is In Product Plan and will give you a def query with what you're looking for. We plan to have that functionality available in ArcGIS Pro 3.4 - give it a go when released and see how it works for you.
I do think Bud’s alternate implementation suggested here (show the selection set in a text box) would be nice to have.
It’s great news that Selection to Definition Query is coming, but I think this Idea still has merit.
