When you resize the width of the content and the catalog panes for a specific project and save and close the project, every other project opens with the same width. This is not appropriate since you resize ArcGIS Pro sections base on the specific project, not for all project. The same applies to the selected Portal. ArcGIS Pro should save the selected Portal for the project and only for that specific project and not as default for upcoming projects.
