Navigate between different Contents layers in the Fields View

I've opened the Fields View for a specific layer by clicking Fields in the Data ribbon.
I want to make a field change to 20+ layers; I want to hide most of the fields except for a handful of generic fields.
As far as I can tell, there isn't an efficient way to navigate between different layers in the Fields View. Currently, I'd need to close the Fields View and reopen it for each layer, which is cumbersome.
Could a pick list be added to the Fields View that would let me quickly switch to a different layer?
