Horizontally align scale bar map units label with above-bar numbers when set to "After labels" (or allow vertical offset adjustment)

Idea: When the number position is set to "Above bar" and the map units label position is set to "After labels," make the map unit labels align horizontally with the numbers.

Background: In the scale bar settings, when the number position is set to "Above bar" and the map units label position is set to "After labels," the map unit label is horizontally aligned with the bar and not the numbers (see below).

Alternatively, allow users to adjust both the horizontal and vertical offset of the map units (currently, we can move them left and right, but not up and down). This might actually be the best solution since it would give users the most flexibility for all label positions.

A third solution would be to allow leading spaces to be entered in the Label Text box (right now they get trimmed) so that we could select the "Above right" label position and then add a bunch of spaces before the Label Text to move the text to the right of the numbers (it lands on top of the numbers by default, and the offset for that label position moves it up and down but not left and right).

The screenshot above is two scale bars stacked on top of each other, one with numbers above the bar and one with numbers below the bar. Both map units are set to "After labels," but the map units label only aligns with the numbers on the bottom bar (numbers below bar). On the top bar, the map units label is horizontally aligned with the bar, not the labels. We ended up putting a white box over the map units label and added our own "FEET" text box properly positioned on top of that. Not optimal!

Note that the numbers and map units line up perfectly if a dual scale bar is used instead (below), but then we lose the option to specify the number of divisions. Our in-house standard is two divisions and two subdivisions, but the dual scalebars seem to default to four divisions and four subdivisions with no option to change the number of divisions and subdivisions. If anyone knows how to edit the number of divisions and subdivisions on a dual scale bar, please let me know.

Thanks!

You can adjust the divisions on a dual scale bar. Select the Upper Scale Bar or Lower Scale Bar in the Contents pane to reveal a different set of options in the Element pane, including the number of Divisions and Subdivisions.
